A lot of netaudio @ Club Transmediale 09

23. Dezember 2008

Club Transmediale - worlds famous and annual electronic “festival for adventurous music and related visual arts” - accepted netaudio.berlin’s proposal for a joined presentation of netaudio.berlin and netaudio london in 2009.  CTM will take place from 22st to 31st of January 2009 in various venues across Berlin.

A large daytime program under the theme STRUCTURES – Backing-up Independent Audio-visual Cultures will address both theoretical and practical aspects of today’s independent and experimental music production at the intersections of pop and sound & media arts. An outstanding evening / music program with long clubnights is used to attract a wide international audience. For the CTM.09 Opening Concert on January 22nd Wolfgang Voigt will perform his legendary ambient project GAS live at Berlin’s Volksbuehne Theatre.

Netaudio Berlin and Netaudio London are going to present an evening of networked music: a programme inspired by netlabels, creative commons, digital production tools, web 2.0 and free culture with highlights from past, present and future Netaudio Festivals, held in annual rotation between Berlin and London. The joined program of netaudio.berlin and netaudio london will be presented on Tuesday 27/01/2009 at Club Maria as a taster to the next Netaudio Festival in Berlin in Autumn 2009 [expect more infos soon!]

PROGRAM:

Ollie Bown [UK] / Netaudio Ping Pong [INT] / Spatial [UK] / Norman Fairbanks [DE] / Dr. Nojoke & J-Lab & Servando Barreiro [DE/UK/ES] / Chris Box vs. Cotumo [DE/UK] / Visuals: Tritamin [DE]

The Netaudio programme gives the CTM audience an aural taster of the latest sounds of the Internet - ranging widely from abstract sonic art presented by Ollie Bown’s piece of generative computer music to the ultra bass tracks of the next generation web-savvy dubstep and underground UK dance producers, collated by Spatial.

A visual interpretation to this sonic discourse is added by live video collective Tritamin, aiming to explore the infinity of the Internet through modulation and self confessed sound nerd Norman Fairbanks presents a performance including latest sound tools as well as some rather unconventional machines.

Netaudio particularly focuses on collaborative performance with the session featuring unique cross-cultural associations by London’s live-laptop producer J-Lab and Berlin’s sampling artists Dr.Nojoke with VJ Servando. Chris Box, member of the Netaudio London collective, will explore the compatibility of his virtual record box in a back-to-back DJ set with Netaudio Berlin in-house jock Cotumo – together they present an eclectic selection of creative commons licensed material.

netaudio ping pong

In the best Web 2.0 ethos, members of the audience will have the chance to cross the consumer / producer divide and perform themselves as part of the Netaudio Ping Pong sessions. Based on run-around table tennis, CTM visitors can lay their hands on some cutting edge technology and produce some wicked beats.

MORE NETAUDIO

The netaudio night session is by far not the only netaudio-/ netlabel related topic of this 10th CTM: On Monday 26/01/2009 there’s the night of STFU - an international non-profit open collective of electronic musicians, visual artists, netlabels and promoters who organize concerts of electronic and experimental music using the internet as their main means of communication. STFU is a network of groups and individuals who come together to make live electronic music events happen. Past festivals have taken place in cities like Manchester, Glasgow, Marseilles, Rome, Athens, Helsinki and Heidelberg. A documentary film called STFU Glasgow: Netaudio in the Real World has been released under a Creative Commons license and can be downloaded here.

Further there are some netaudio artists who made it in the program on different ways - for example Jahtari’s disrupt who’s in the program with Jahtari Bass Invasion on Friday 23/01/2009 (this day’s a dub highlight for anyone addicted to this style of music like me… including the 2007 film dub echoes by Bruno Natal or legendary UK soundsystem Mungo’s Hifi… to mention a few…). Youre supposed to discover more netaudio artist if you flip through the whole program…

We would like to meet you there!

Nettare - Italian music underground visible

9. Dezember 2008

Nettare -  this is the Italian network of netlabels. Nettare is also the first Italian festival dedicated to netaudio. And: Nettare is a box of pearls lifted from Italian musical underground.

nettare04.jpg

Since a few years the Italian netlabel community has been attracting more and more netaudio followers to their steady developing output of high quality netaudio releases. The hotspots of Italian netaudio scene can be located in Torino (Tonimusic | Chew-Z | Nastro Rec. | Silenzio), Bologna (Homework Rec. | MicroLabel | Musicaoltranza), Milano (Ekleipsi | 51beats | Inv3rno), Roma (Nordik | Dharmasound | Naked Noises| Upitup | Ogredung) and Genova (Flexible Audio | ruzzi NET | Costreetrec). Besides there is a long list of netlabel activities going on - such as in Modena (Zymogen), Cagliari (Signorafranca), Irpinia (A Quiet Bump), Trento (Muertepop),  Venezia (Deep in Dub |  Radiance Collective), Firenze (Pitjamajusto), Sardegna (Roh Rec.), Treviso (Vuoto ), Cuneo (Quantum-Bit), Agrigento (Rudimentale), and last but not least Napoli (Officine F.R.O.G. | Sunday Morning Brain Production/Barfog).

nettare02.jpg

Most of the above mentioned netlabels are now forming the nettare-network “to make the underground of the underground visible” - as Michele Giovannini explains it. He’s one of the main architects (also in real life…) of the nettare structures - and at the same time one of the heads of the above mentioned electronic music producers’ collective “Homework Rec.“. On this 6th of December nettare came out with a nation-wide campaign to drag electronic music out of the dungeons of Italian music.

nettare06.gifIn Milano the techno Orchestra of Inv3rno presented a wide selection of electronics at the “Rocket” before the Oem Quartet played a live set of break beat and ambient. At this time in Torino the four netlabels Tonimusic | Chew-Z | Nastro Rec. and Silenzio set up DJ- and live-sets of Turin-based netaudio artists Titta (Toni Music), Step (Silenzio), PassEnger (Radiance Collective) and Binary (Chew-Z) in a place called “La Drogheria“.  In Cosenza the Napolitanian netlabel Officine F.R.O.G. presented shows of their artists LUCAMOKA  and NATEGE at Spazio Cult. Zabriskie. Firenze was the place for netaudio artists Sonotheque (Silenzio, Flexible Audio) who was sharing the night with Berlin artist Jan Krueger (Hello?Repeat) at the Viper Club. At the “aperitivo” (the warmup-for-nightlife-time between 6 and 9 pm)  Tantotempo & Simona Barbera of the Flexible Audio netlabel played at Genova’s Rebecca Container Contemporary gallery. Finally there’s been a collaboration between Romaeuropa and Snob Production at Dimmidisi for the event in Roma. 5$man  of Homework Rec. played live while there were excellent visuals done by Mutech (netaudio.london) vs Daniele Spanò (Brancaleone/ DC10). All events were without entrance fee.

nettare01.jpg

The main event took place in Bologna. It started a 2pm with the presentation of the nettare-compilation at the Piazza Nettuno, where everyone with a usb player/ -stick could download the nettare compilation from a special solar beatz station invented by Play on Plaid. 2 hours later there has been a workshop-talk with Raimund Reintjes & Don Ludwig of netaudio.berlin - as well as with Filippo Aldovini of Zymogen Netlabel, Luca Garuffi of Homework Rec. and Daniele Fazio of MicroLabel in the decent and art-related atmosphere of gallery/bar Sesto Senso.

Thereafter the audience were spoiled with some excellent livesets of Hirnlego (Homework Rec.) and Wang Inc MicroLabel.

nettare03.jpg

The night continues at a place called “Cassero“, a Gay/Lesbian Center inside a mediaveal fortressed house. Here it was Berlin-based Andrea Sartori (Homework Rec.) who delivered an outstandig live set of minimal techhouse tunes before co-founder (with Björn Hartmann) of  Textone Netlabel (now shutdown) Jay Haze (Berlin) rocked the brimfull house until dawn with techy to vocal house clubtunes. Visuals were done by Hilbert K.

nettare05.jpg

Unfortunately the Italian organizors did not manage to set up a working audio/videao connection between the single events - as planned - due to disaffection of the selected streaming partner. Anyhow: the idea to set up a  parallel event in several cities to reflect the net in terms of the indigenous method of distribution as well as the fresh form of relations between the different Italian netlabels is very strong and convincing. And with this concerted action the Italian netaudio community is more than visible now. Cooperation between nettare and netaudio.berlin - which is already co-operating with netaudio london - is aspired from both sides. It might also help the Italian netaudio activists to aknowledge that their pearl diving into the undergrund of Italian electronic music is starting to pay off in this unique nation-wide label structure - and is very much appreciated internationally.

Nettare is a real network event - means: the single events in the different cities will be connected via internet / live stream and other communication resources. Donovan Ludwig und Raimund Reintjes of Nettare’s content- and mediapartner netaudio.berlin have been invited to nettare main event in Bologna to talk about the Berlin netaudio acitivities, netlag, the past and future festivals and much  more. For the evening the Italian netaudio community invited Jay Haze (of former textone netlabel, which stopped activities and transformed into the contexterrior label) amongst italian netlabel artists Shaduz and Modus. Electronic Culture

26.11.-30.11.2008

Pakistan! Brazil! New Zealand! Romania! – Once again, WORLDTRONICS is bringing electronic music from all over the world to Berlin: music that has either not yet made its mark, or has far more to offer us than the clichés would have us believe.

Take Brazil for instance: curator Arto Lindsay, the lively avant-garde legend and producer of Brazilian pop stars such as Caetano Veloso and Marisa Monte, has compiled a programme that has nothing to do with Baile Funk or a loungey café ambience, but consists of Maracatu, brass bands and abstract noise. Or take Romania, for example: Groove chief-editor Heiko Hoffmann did not choose Bucovina noise or Balkan Beat Box, but the most important representatives of a new Bucharest minimalism. And then there is the Pakistan collection discovered locally by Detlef Diederichsen, head of the House of World Cultures’ musical department, and a group of tourists from New Zealand, brought together by musician, DJ and author Hans Nieswandt. The opening evening is has a very special musical treat in store for you: 7 Women No Cry presents seven musicians from the compilation series “4 Women No Cry” on Gudrun Gut’s Monika-Label.

6. Dez.: Netlabel-Festival NETTARE in Italien

18. November 2008
